American citizens should not have to live in fear of a prison sentence merely for disagreeing with the government’s opinion. All Americans should remain free to honor God in our lives and in our work. The government has no business threatening Americans with jail time for simply exercising their constitutionally-protected freedoms of religion and speech. Every American, whatever you think about this issue, should fear a government that ignores the First Amendment in order to exercise this kind of power over its citizens. COLORADO BAKER FACES PRISON OVER SAME-SEX WEDDING CAKE
Dec. 12, 2013–Jack Phillips is a baker who declined to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple because his Christian belief is that marriage exists only between a man and woman. Now a Colorado judge has ordered him to bake cakes for same-sex marriages, and if Phillips refuses, he could go to jail.
Phillips owns a small business, Masterpiece Cakeshop, in Lakewood, Colorado. A homosexual couple-Charlie Craig and David Mullins-visited Phillips’s store on July 19, 2012, asking him to bake them a cake to celebrate their wedding. Although the Colorado Constitution defines marriage as between only one man and one woman, these men claimed to have been already married in Massachusetts and wanted to celebrate the wedding in Colorado.
Craig and Mullins complained to the Colorado Civil Rights Commission. On Dec. 6, 2013, an administrative law judge-Robert Spencer-ruled that Masterpiece Cakeshop and Jack Phillips violated Colorado’s anti-discrimination law. Spencer ordered Phillips to bake cakes celebrating gay marriage for any other parties that ask for such a cake in the future. Read More…..
FINDING JESUS AT THE AIR FORCE
Dec. 13, 2013–This Christmas, it’s not away in a manger, it’s away goes the manger. That was the case at Shaw Air Force base, where a plastic baby Jesus almost caused an international incident. The installation’s nativity, which was an annual tradition, was abruptly moved when a group of Airmen supposedly complained that the display amounted to an endorsement of religion.
Today, the holy family is back in its rightful place — the victim of an Obama Pentagon overreach that Shaw officials say has since been corrected. According to theSouth Carolina base, commanders were never alerted to the problem by the Airmen themselves but by the Defense Department, which was acting on a missive from the anti-Christian crusaders at the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF). Within hours, Pentagon officials ordered Mary, Joseph, and Baby Jesus to be put under wraps. Shaw officials had a better idea: moving the manger to the chapel. Until then, the scene had to be covered in a tarp — lest more Airmen be traumatized. Read More….
CROSS EYED IN VETERANS’ CASE
Dec. 13, 2013–In California, atheists are waging war in some pretty high places — 822 feet above San Diego, to be exact. There, in a beautiful memorial overlooking the ocean, rises a tall white cross. For decades, it’s stood on that spot as a peaceful guard to the legacy of our soldiers. Two thousand seven hundred plaques sit in its shadow–memorials to men and women who fought for the very freedom the Mount Soledad cross represents. But the Left, which apparently has nothing better to do than complain about a few acres of public property, is doing everything it can to bulldoze the display.
Since 1989, liberals have gone out of their way to be offended by the Memorial, which has culminated in an explosive, quarter-century lawsuit. This week, the case took another turn, as a federal judge had no choice but to order the famous cross to be removed from the memorial. As FRC’s Ken Klukowski explains in a new Breitbart column, Judge Larry Alan Burns seemed to choke up as he read the edict declaring the cross an unconstitutional endorsement of Christianity. He, like most of us, is no doubt saddened by the precedent of the Ninth Circuit, which binds his hands under its radical interpretation of the Establishment Clause. Read More….
