The Middle East is in the tightening grip of Islamic fanatics whose unimpeded advance makes their desire to establish an Islamic caliphate spanning Syria and Iraq a reality.
The persecution of non-Muslims is on the rise across the Middle East. Christians are being murdered in Sudan; jihadists are slaughtering worshipers in Nigeria, and ISIS terrorists in Iraq and Syria are burning churches as Christians flee for their lives in droves. Since June 2014, when extremist fighters from the Islamic State in Iraq and al-Sham captured Mosul, they have been on the outskirts of Sinjar, facing off against a small number of Kurdish peshmerga militiamen. Yazidis and Christians are on the run for their lives. ISIS fighters have been executing Christian and Yazidi men who won’t convert to Islam on the spot, taking away the women as jihadi brides.
An apocalyptic assault underway in Mosul by ISIS militants
The Sunni terrorist army, ISIS, is engaging in a savage religious cleansing of Christians in the areas which it now holds within Iraq. Mosul has become a killing ground for Christians. While the majority of Mosul’s 1.8 million inhabitants is Sunni Muslim, the city has historical importance for the world’s Christians. Mosul encompasses the ancient city of Nineveh, which is first mentioned in Genesis, chapter ten, when God sent Jonas to preach repentance, and in the end, the city was saved from destruction.
Today’s carnage across Iraq reveals how ISIS jihadists are resorting to grotesque levels of violence; Christians are being crucified for refusing to renounce their faith or simply because they are non-Muslim. Children are being beheaded; women are raped and sold into sex slavery, and many are having their limbs cut off.
U.S. Leaders: Bystanders to Genocide
As Syria and Iraq burn, the Obama administration is strumming their fiddles! Fox News reported that Britain’s David Cameron appeared self-assured and determined in his approach to the Iraq crisis, while Barack Obama came across as a deer in the headlights, unable to outline a coherent U.S. response to a rapidly growing crisis in the Middle East. Mr. Cameron issued an important warning to the world, one that should be heeded by a White House that badly needs a clear sense of direction and a real strategy for winning the global war against Islamic jihadists.
In 1994, President Bill Clinton refused to send help to the massacred Tutus in Rwanda, which he has since admitted is the biggest regret of his presidency. During the course of a hundred days the Hutu government of Rwanda and its extremist allies very nearly succeeded in exterminating the country’s Tutsi minority. Using firearms, machetes, and a variety of garden implements, Hutu militiamen, soldiers, and ordinary citizens murdered some 800,000 Tutsi and politically moderate Hutu. It was the fastest, most efficient killing spree of the twentieth century. History proves that staying out of Rwanda was an explicit U.S. policy objective.
An urgent invitation to the body of believers in the Church
I invite you to accept your humanitarian responsibilities toward the afflicted and help them in their plight and the difficult conditions in which they live today. You can help pray and send support for the Christians and Yazidis who have been driven out of Mosul, or the Sunni Arabs who don’t want to live under the tyranny of ISIS. Christians must help now! Matthew 25:40 states, in the words of Jesus, “Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.”
