Islamic Caliphate Fuels Genocide of Christians in Mideast

The world is watching helplessly while Islamists spread their radical ideology through the sword—committing genocide with their barbaric 7th Century traditions. The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is beheading children, raping women, and killing scores of Christians in Iraq. They are also warning Christians to convert or be massacred. At the same time, ISIS jihadists are crucifying Christians and others in Syria, and the bloody civil war in Syria has left 170,000 dead and created millions of refugees fleeing for safety

What is happening to the Assyrian Christians, also known as Chaldean and Syriac, in Iraq? This small Christian population in Iraq has shrunk dramatically as a result of the jihad there. Lila Gilbert reported on Fox News: “And now, with the raging incursion of ISIS – a brutal Al Qaeda affiliated terrorist group – the religious cleansing of Iraq’s Christians is nearing completion as well. Iraq’s  Christian community is hardly a western innovation or a colonial relic. It dates from the 1st Century, when two of Jesus’ disciples – St. Thomas and St. Thaddeus (also known as St. Jude) – preached the Gospel in what was then Assyria. There has been a Christian presence in Iraq ever since. [Source, Lila Gilbert, The religious cleansing of Iraq’s Christians, Fox News]

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) have been enforcing Dhimmi status of the Christian residents of Syria, and are now committing genocide on Christians in the regions they have recently conquered in Iraq. The concept of Dhimmitude, is a dehumanizing status belonging to all subjugated non-Muslims in Islamist societies. ISIS gives several choices—convert to Islam, or if you remain Christian, you must accept the Dhimmi status and pay the jizya, (a tax for non-Muslims only), or… you will be put to the sword. Most opt for the second choice and live out their lives as second-class subjects. This is the hard-tyranny of Islamic supremacy, which is the hallmark of the Caliphate system. Freedom is an unknown concept; liberty is blasphemy in a system that crushes the individual into clay mortar for the building of a greater Islamic State.

The global left views the advent of a new Caliphate as something similar to an Islamic version of the European Union—nothing could be further from the truth. The Obama Administration made this mistaken assessment while dealing with the Muslim Brotherhood in the Mideast. The Caliphate is a means toward an end; that end being Islamic dominance. The Caliphate is merely the structural entity that will administer Sharia throughout an Islamist-controlled world.

As Christians, we need to pray faithfully and consistently for Christians in the Middle East to have courage to stand for Christ and boldly proclaim the Gospel—the good news—amidst such darkness and evil. We need to pray for the Lord to protect Jews, Christians and Muslims from this jihadist wave of terror. We need to speak out—don’t be silent in the face of great evil—we must urge the democracies and all civilized nations of the world to fight such terror and help those who are defending themselves against Radical Islam.

Even so, we must not wait for governments to do the right thing—the Church must do all it can to help those who are suffering in real and practical ways. Jesus instructs us in Matthew 25:40, “…..‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’”
